Twilight: Total Eclipse of the Heart Giveaway

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Many posts ago we admitted our love for all things Twilight.  And since the third Twilight movie is coming out in ONE WEEK it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that we’ve been thinking a lot about it lately.  It has been causing all kinds of distractions and daydreams.  For example, last week when we should have been doing some dusting or tagging or customer servicing, we just sat around thinking about how we REALLY want them to shoot the next two movies in Portland. That daydream led to yet another daydream about what it would be like if Kristen Stewart (yes, we are totally team Bella) came to the shop.  We imagined ourselves throwing up a little in excitement and then trying to act nonchalant while simultaneously telling her how we totally relate to her because everyone thought we were really snotty when we were growing up, too. But in fact, we were just kind of shy and also didn’t want to hang around people we didn’t really like just to “fit in”.  Phew!  That was a long daydream.

We know that all this Twilight/Kristen Stewart talk may cause many of you to judge us in a negative way but we don’t really mind.  We all have our biases. (Ours are against people who wear overalls while not employed on a farm and those who use the word “re-doubling”). We proudly admit that we are total suckers for all that teen angst, two worlds collide, true love mumbo-jumbo.  And for your information, Twilight was not the first or last story to have our hearts all a-flutter.  Other awkwardly lovely, teeny, star-crossed stories we’ve gone gaga over include:

Romeo and Juliet – (zeffirelli’s version is a classic)
My So Called Life – (in bed for days when they canceled this)
Dirty Dancing – (on a constant loop in the VCR during the summer of ’88)
My Life as Liz – (a recent single season goodie that had us glued to the screen)

Anyway…

Didn’t someone say something about a giveaway?

In honor of our crush on Kristen Stewart, the movie release of Twilight Saga: Eclipse and to all good things that create daydreams, we would like to give our blog visitors a chance to win a $20 gift certificate.  (Out-of-town entries will have the option to receive a surprise daydream-inspired gift.)  You can leave a comment here or head over to our Facebook page and tell us about the thing that you’ve been daydreaming about lately.  Now that you know all of our heart’s deepest secrets – it’s time for you to dish a few of your own.  You have until July 1st.

p.s. If you can get us a personal, face-to-face interview with Kristen Stewart, you automatically win the giveaway.  Plus a $500 gift certificate.  That is not a joke.

News to Know – Remodel Update

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

As some of you know, we opened back up a little less than two weeks ago after undergoing our much anticipated remodel.  We couldn’t be happier with the results!  And based on all initial responses, most of you feel the same.  Though the aesthetic work is done, we find we are busier than usual playing catch-up.  We ask you to bear with us as we continue to work through the blips and bumps of our first few weeks of being open again.  It feels surprisingly similar to when we opened the first time – 3 and 1/2 years ago!  We promise to throw ourselves a big party soon and invite all of you to celebrate our new space with us.

In the meantime, check out these pics of the new space and then get yourselves in here to see it in person!  We’d love to hear what you think.

News to Know – Spring Remodel

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Say goodbye to the green paint, the pink fridge and those cute hand-painted lights. Things they are-a-changin’.  You have probably already heard about our big Spring Remodel that begins this Sunday, March 21st and goes through April 5th.  But in case you haven’t – we, along with our bff Saint Cupcake, will be closed for two whole weeks to spruce up our spaces.  Now you know!

We apologize for any inconvenience this causes but we think you’ll really like what we’re doing and forgive us in the end.  Continue to check the blog for new updates or changes to the schedule.

May we recommend some of our favorite places to shop?  Perhaps you can patronize these lovely shops while we’re away:

Flutter
Porch Light
Artemesia
Flora
Tilde
Elsa & Sam
Ink & Peat

Thom's Tatoo

Can you believe it?!?!? Neither can we. As of November 1st, we’re officially 3 years old. What did we do to celebrate? Well WE went out to eat and stuffed ourselves full of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and pie and then we went to a Regina Spektor concert. It was delicious and magical, respectively.

Unfortunately, due to a paralyzing fear of hostess-ing, we didn’t have a store party or anything. Nevertheless, we would like all of our loyal and lovely customers to know that we are so grateful for you and your dedication to our little shop. If we can ever recover from the debacle that was our 7th birthday party and muster up enough courage to throw another big shindig for ourselves, you can bet you’ll all be invited. Until that time comes, know that we celebrate every time one of you walks through our doors.

WHHAAAT? Open on Mondays?

Monday, September 14th, 2009

That’s right folks.  We’ve gone off the deep end. We’ve given up our one day off and decided to open the shop on Mondays from 10am to 5pm.  But before you get too excited there are 2 things you should know:

1. This is a test.  We will be open on Mondays from today until the end of the year.  If it’s a hit, we will continue into infinity.  If not, we will return to our old hours the moment the bells toll midnight on December 31st.

2. Saint Cupcake (our loyal roommate) is still closed on Mondays.  They are very serious about being closed on Mondays and that will never change…no matter how much you complain.  However, the good news is that they will offer any day-old cupcakes at BAKE SALE prices – $5 a box! This is a cash only sale and held on a week by week basis.  First come, first serve!

We hope to see you soon.
