Favorite Finds – A Pigeon in Portland

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

If you live in Portland, you know all about our recent heat wave. Chances are, even if you don’t live here, you’ve heard about it. We’re pretty sure our out of control temperatures have made national news. It’s been so hot that when it maxed at 97 degrees yesterday, customers were all talking about how much cooler it had gotten. Honestly, we fair-skinned inhabitants of the Pacific Northwest were just not ready for that kind of heat. It sucked on so many levels. First, it was over 100 degrees for like 5 days and the shop has no air-conditioning. And then, on top of being all sweaty and gross, it was sooooo boring here because people do not go out shopping when it is super hot outside.

The one bright spot of our week came in the form of some new pretties that got delivered amid the sweltering heat. Our first order from the local Pigeon Toe Ceramics arrived just as we were about to dive into our last box of otter pops. The pretty porcelain was just what we needed to take our minds off of our sticky hot situation. Looking at all the smooth, white surfaces of the bowls and vessels we were now surrounded by, we were instantly transported to a cooler, gentler place.

Now that the heat wave of 2009 is coming to a close, we hope that you’ll all start to venture out of your air-conditioned sanctuaries and into the shop to take a look at our newest treasures.
